What I Write

Poetry relative to, in observance of, and in relationship with women, particularly, women of color.  What I write is authentic emotion -- mine or empathized. A goodly portion of my poetic musings are autobiographical ala Lorde-esque "biomythographical" -- my explanation of self, life, spirit to establish how I want to be read.

"As much as I talk, I spend quite a lot of time eavesdropping on the human spirit.  You are my muse."

"For women, then, poetry is not a luxury.  It is a vital necessity of our existence... Poetry is the way we help give name to the nameless so it can be thought."
Audre Lorde, poet, activist, writer

"I am an ordinary human being who is impelled to write poetry...I still do feel that a poet has a duty to words, and that words can do wonderful things, and it's too bad to just let them lie there without doing anything with and for them."
Gwendolyn Brooks, writer
